Back in the glory days, I was a tournament slalom skier. I skied on both the intercollegiate and AWSA circuit, traveling all over the country. When we had Dan, I gave up the tournament scene. I don't look as good in a swimsuit as I did years ago, and I don't ski quite as well as I did back then, but nothing beats a good ski ride! For the last few years, I've been lucky enough to get back on the slalom course, albeit with lower expectations. I ski with three great guys, John, Bob and Val. Both Regionals and Nationals are in California this year, and I'm eligible to go........maybe! |

My half marathon days are over too, but I still enjoy the road. Four mornings each week I get up at 5 A.M. and walk the hills of U.C. for an hour with my girlfriends, Jean, Joanne, and Marilyn. It gives us all time to visit, keeps the dogs in shape, and allows us to nibble a little extra at our BBQs. These women provide support, recipes, parenting tips, and a good ear.

When I was still back at Neurocrine Biosciences, Sue Sullivan started a book club. Originally, it was all biotech types, but as we branched out into other spheres, we brought in women from our new venues. We now have a law student, two med students, a psychologist, 2 human resource professionals, 2 editors, an IRS auditor, a teacher, and an unemployed web designer in addition to our scientist core. We've moved way beyond the Oprah Book Club genre and are having a great time reading a wide variety of fiction authors. If nothing else, we all have an excuse to clean our house and cook a real dish once in awhile.
