Academics

Charlie is now 8 years old, and just finished second grade at our local public school, Spreckels Elementary. He's a good reader; the Harry Potter series is by far his favorite. Sandy Boyd, his teacher deserves a round of applause for surviving both Spinosa boys as second graders.

Cultural pursuits

Chaz enjoys playing piano, thanks to his teacher, Rose Maria Scozarro. He has been playing for about 2 years, and shows no signs of fatigue (Mrs. Scozarro may be the one who's tiring!) He doesn't even mind recitals! We really like to go to plays together at LJ Playhouse or the Old Globe. He says he's going to join the California Youth Theatre troupe once he's ten, because that's when you get to be on the crew. You know, running around in the dark, pushing buttons in the light room, BOY STUFF.

Sports

Chooch likes soccer (though he hates when mom yells out this particular nickname). He's played on the following teams, so we've gotten to know a lot of the kids in U.C.

• Orange Lightning

Luckily, our local Park and Rec. Center has "Mighty Might" basketball, with a nice group of volunteer coaches.
He's played for a couple of seasons, and his last coach was really cute (John coached)!

With me for a mom, Charles has been pushed into water sports a bit too (really had to twist his arm). Both boys have gone to waterski and wakeboarding camps at my alma mater, The Mission Bay Aquatic Center. Charlie likes the knee board best, but has also mastered the wakeboard. He's honed his skills with trips to the desert ski lakes, having a ball with John Anderson's family. He also likes to boogie board once the ocean temp rises, but he hasn't done much surfing yet. I hope he learns before John forgets!

Toys

Charlie is a Lego man, first and foremost. He also loves his new California Chariot, a hybrid skateboard / bike thing. He loves to play computer games, especially Motoracer andLego Racers. The two home office computers are networked, so he challenges any willing houseguest to a lap!
